Bronze Age Cypriot bowl with very good provenance
Drink from a bowl 4000 years old! This is a lovely Early Bronze Age bowl from Cyprus, and what I think makes it so delightful is that it is very clearly made to sit so perfectly and comfortably in the hand. The fabric is called Red Polished Ware. This was a hand-made, monochrome pottery with smooth surfaces, slipped in red or red-brown slips and burnished to a medium or high lustre. Many such pieces were clearly eating and drinking bowls which would have been held in the hand. It has a small vestigial lug handle that is pierced above. Has a nice burnished surface and the bowl is a delight to hold in the hand as someone surely held it and drank from it 4000 years ago. Intact apart from a very fine short hairline crack of about three quarters of an inch near the rim and a very small area of surface loss on one side. The hairline crack does not compromise the integrity of the bowl. 93mm across the rim and 70mm high. Cypriot Early Bronze Age c 2000 BC. Acquired from a well known antiquities dealer in 2011. Detailed provenance information included on COA from well known antiquities dealer. The item "Bronze Age Cypriot bowl with very good provenance" is in sale since Sunday, March 17, 2019.
